Ved Vyas Temple

The ancient Maharishi Ved Vyas Temple or Ved Vyas Mahadev Temple located in Sahupuri, the Padav area of Chandauli district, has its own recognition and identity. It is believed that Maharishi Ved Vyas paid a visit to Kashi after the end of the Mahabharata war. At that time, he visited Baba Vishwanath, but did not receive any answer from Lord Bhola. Hungry and thirsty, he remained rooted to the spot for many days. Angered by this, he cursed Kashi Vishwanath that His darshan-worship would prove fruitless for His devotees. After that, he located to Sundarbans in Sahupuri area and started doing penance. The Great Sage resolved to make this area Vyas Kashi. On the other side, when Lord Vishwanath got up from His samadhi, He remembered Vyas Muni, and immediately sent Mother Goddess Annapurna to Vyas Muni. Goddess Annapurna came in disguise and prepared 56 types of prasad and offered them to Ved Vyas as bhog. The sage recognized Her for Her divinity and returned back the prasad. Later, to free His father from the curse, Lord Ganesha did a penance which eventually calmed the sage’s anger. After this he freed Lord Vishwanath from the curse. At the same time, Lord Ganesh was asked to aid in the composition of Mahabharata. From that time onwards, the tradition of preparing food and offering it to Vyas Muni started. A Vyas Shivling was established in this temple where strangely there is no Nandi outside. Similarly, it is also believed that after seeing Kashi Vishwanath Ji, His darshan is considered complete only after seeing Maharishi Ved Vyas JI. A huge crowd of devotees gather here every Monday in the month of Shravan.
