Martyr Memorial Dhanapur

The citizens of Chandauli district had actively participated in the Indian Independence Struggle. OIn 1857, they had also been active participants in the First War of Independence. Since then they continued to participate in the freedom struggle. During Quit India movement, Mahatma Gandhi's clarion call to do or die echoed on 9 August 1942 till the borders of Dhanapur and Syedraja. In Dhanapur, on 16 August 1942, the revolutionaries unfurled the tricolour at the police station by risking their lives. During this attempt, Heera Singh, Mahangu Singh and Raghunath Singh were martyred in Dhanapur. This is the reason why Dhanapur area of Chandauli district is honoured as Martyr's Land. The Shaheed Samarak has been constructed to honour the martyrdom of freedom fighters, where they are remembered on national festivals.
