As catalysts in Indian Freedom Struggle, citizens of Chandauli district include martyrs Shivdhar Ram, Fenku Ram, and Ganesh Ram. They were martyred by British bullets while trying to hoist the tricolour at the police station here on 28 August 1942, during Quit India movement. The Martyrs’ Memorial at Saiyadraja is dedicated to the memory of the martyrs of the Saiyadraja shootout.
